Summary

The 2006/1 issue of Prágai Tükör begins with an interview with the President of Hungary, László Sólyom, who visited the Czech Republic in January and, during his visit, met the representatives of the organisations of the Hungarian minority in Prague. In the following contribution, the Dean of the János Selye University, Margit L. Erdélyi, describes the circumstances of the foundation of the first Hungarian university in Slovakia (Komárno) as well as its current status and goals. The Our History section contains an interview with the Hungarian historian from Slovakia Attila Simon who summarises the status of Hungarian history writing in Slovakia in the earlier decades and now. In the About Languages - About Our Language section, Lajos Mizser presents his survey carried out in the Subcarpathian region of the Ukraine where he collected surnames of Czech origin. The next article, included in the Panorama of Essays section, is the first one from a new series of articles whose aim is to present other periodicals that follow the important events in culture and literature in the Central European region. The Czech weekly A2 is presented via Lubomír Martínek's essay Immigrants, emigrants, settlers that tries to find the answer to the question why people from Central Europe often leave their countries and find their new home in Western Europe. The following essay was written by Ottó Szabó who reflects on the questions of the history and philosophy of art. In the next article, Ferenc Boros recalls his relationship with the former university professor Péter Rákos. The Meeting of Cultures section offers reviews of three Hungarian films. The first one is The Unburied Man directed by Márta Mészáros, a film related to the revolutionary events of 1956 in Hungary. Jiøí Cieslar reviews the film and describes the reception of the events of 1956 in the Czechoslovakia of that time. There is an interview with an other Hungarian film director, Attila Mispál, whose film Paths of Light was shown during the European Film Festival in the Czech Republic. The third Hungarian film in this section is Áron Gauder's District! that gained great success in the Czech Republic recently. There is a mini-profile of the popular contemporary Czech writer, Michal Viewegh, written by Margit Zádor who, as an example, translated one of Viewegh's short-stories for the journal. The Miscellaneous section brings Bohumil Doležal's view on the Hungarian president's January visit to the Czech Republic.

The supplement of the journal Tükörkép starts with the Mosaic section where there are reports on the activities and events that have happened in the last couple of months in the particular organisations of the Association of Hungarians, especially in Brno, Plzeò, Teplice and Prague. There is also the programme of events scheduled by each organization for the first six months of 2006. The following article informs about the World Forum of Scientists held in Budapest last year. There is a shortlist of popular books - the results of the „Big Read” campaign held in Hungary last year. We invite the readers to a new Prague shop selling Hungarian products of arts and crafts. The supplements ends with the Children's Corner that focuses on Easter customs this time.
